Nicholas Otieno Ngesa is a seasoned development practitioner with over a decade of experience in project planning, community-based interventions, and sustainable development. As the Chief Operating Officer at Tembea Futures Institute (TeFI), he plays a pivotal role in translating the organization's mission into actionable strategies, ensuring that community-driven innovations are effectively implemented to address pressing challenges.
Nicholas's academic background includes a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance Management from Kenyatta University and a B.A in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi. He is currently finalizing his Master's thesis in Research and Public Policy at Maseno University, focusing on devolved politics and access to clean and safe water in Siaya County.
His professional training encompasses sustainability and innovation from the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland, under the Alliance for Global Sustainability (AGS), and public health policy from the University of Washington. Nicholas has also been trained on the World Food Systems by ETH Zurich.
At TeFI, Nicholas oversees the management of resources, processes, and systems to ensure the organization's social and environmental objectives are met. His responsibilities include developing and executing strategies that drive operational excellence, optimizing service delivery, improving workflow, and enhancing resource allocation. These efforts are critical in efficiently delivering services and products that align with TeFI’s mission of empowering communities with technology-driven innovations and indigenous solutions for sustainable development.
Beyond his role at TeFI, Nicholas is actively involved in various community initiatives. He is a member of the Siaya County Environment Committee, as envisaged under section 29 of the Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act, and serves at the Siaya Youth Agri-business Coordinating Unit (YACU), contributing to the county's youth agribusiness strategies.
Nicholas's extensive experience in public finance management, youth empowerment, peacebuilding, enterprise development, microfinance, gender mainstreaming, and agribusiness development positions him as a key figure in advancing TeFI's vision of technology-driven innovations for sustainable communities.
